About Us at The Big Bark Community

My husband and I have spent our lives around large dogs of just about every breed that we researched for our Selection Guide. We started the Big Bark Community for the owners of large breeds so we would all have better access to specialized research, product reviews, and resources to make taking care of large dogs a little easier. Raising a large dog can be daunting. Knowing the type of breed that fits your lifestyle will impact your financial decisions, social habits, and will make you rethink your daily routine. The product, health, and social needs of large dogs are very specific and having one place to return to for additional information, specific to large dogs, can pay dividends for the entire family.

What we found to be particularly gratifying though is that, by understanding the intrinsic characteristics of each breed, we are able to train and communicate with each dog in a way that their breed is more receptive to. Using breed characteristics as a starting point for training approaches is just the beginning of creating a special bond. And while every dogs personality within a breed is actually quite different, breed influence does account for a notable difference in how a dog tends to communicate and understands their training. Our personal goal with the Big Bark Community is to teach others how to maximize the bond that they create with their dogs by improving communication, trust, and growing their pack in a way that improves their lives and the lives of their new members.
